The Worst Managers Of The Premier League Era (Part 1)

Managing a football club is a tough job. Managing a team in the Premier League is even harder and there have been many coaches who have fallen flat on their face when they’ve been handed the reins.

It’s usually those managers who have moved to England from other countries without having had the experience of the Premier League, or those who have stepped up from being number two, who have had the hardest time.

Former players trying their first hand at management have also come a cropper as they fail to translate their skills from their playing days into management,

So press the next page as we go through the first four names on our list of the worst managers of the Premier League era.

Remi Garde

The Frenchman was effectively handed a hospital pass when he took over from Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa in November 2015 with the club in freefall.

However, Garde did not help himself, banishing a talented player in Jack Grealish to the reserves while also struggling to win over an already fractured squad. He won just two of his 20 games in charge, meaning he left with a win ratio of just 10%.

Chris Hutchings

Paul Jewell’s assistant succeeded him as manager at two separate clubs, at Bradford in 2000 and at Wigan in 2007. Neither spell was successful.

During his time as manager at Valley Parade, he won just one of his 21 games in charge before being sacked. Hutchings didn’t do too much better at the Latics either, lasting just six months before being sacked in November 2007 after six consecutive defeats.

Bob Bradley

New American owners tried to do things their own way after they took over Swansea in 2016. They brought in their own coach in Bradley who had guided the USA to the last 16 of the World Cup in 2010.

However, he lasted just 85 days in Wales, winning just two of his 11 games in charge, conceding a staggering 29 goals in the process.

Paul Ince

The former Manchester United and Liverpool midfielder had made a name himself in management by getting the MK Dons promoted to League One but he struggled when he was appointed Blackburn manager in 2008.

Ince won just three of his first 17 league games in charge, a win percentage of just 17.65%, and he was sent packing after just six months in the job.
