THE WORST Signings Made By Premier League Clubs This Season

Signing any player comes with risk. Adapting to a new club, even a new country, can take time so it is usually unwise to judge a new addition too quickly.

However, there are always early signs when you can see where a move is not working. The player may fail to start in the Premier League or is left unused for long periods of time.

Some may quibble with the order we have ordered our top five but we think the players we have listed here all deserve to be labelled poor signings.

Press the next page as we list what we believe are the five worst transfers Premier League teams have made so far this campaign.

5) Nikola Vlasic – West Ham – £26m

The Hammers spent a sizeable sum on the Croatian international, after impressing in the Russian Premier League for CSKA Moscow over the past couple of years.

Vlasic has, though, failed in the Premier League before with Everton, and it seems history is repeating itself, with no goals and one assist in nine appearances so far.

4) Jannik Vestergaard – Leicester City – £15m

The fee did look pretty excessive for a defender who is pretty slow and struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League initially at Southampton. After one or two decent seasons, though, Leicester decided that he was worth signing.

However, Vestergaard’s performances have been pretty poor since arriving at the King Power Stadium, and he hasn’t played in any of the Foxes’ last eight games.

3) Bryan Gil – Tottenham – £21m Plus Erik Lamela

The Spaniard is one for the future, but the fact is he hasn’t even been given a start in the Premier League this season, with his game time coming in the Europa Conference League and the domestic cups.

Gil has not scored or contributed an assist in any competition so far. For a player that has four senior caps for Spain, that is a major disappointment.

2) Joe Willock – Newcastle – £25m

The 22-year-old scored eight goals in 14 Premier League appearances during a loan spell with the Magpies last campaign. Since joining on a permanent basis, he has managed zero in 13.

Willock was not a prolific scorer during his early career with Arsenal and it seems he was simply on a hot streak when he first joined Newcastle.

1) Saul Niguez – Chelsea – Loan

The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona were all interested in the Spanish international in the summer so many felt that Chelsea had made a good decision in snapping up the player on loan.

However, Niguez has failed to adapt to English football so far. Manager Thomas Tuchel has even resorted to playing him at left wingback to see whether he can do a job. He will likely be sent back to Atletico Madrid either in January or at the end of the season.
