Top Five Best Goalkeepers Of The Premier League Era

The Premier League has had its fair share of world-class goalkeeper over the years, who have had a huge influence on deciding games and titles.

Finding a top drawer shot-stopper between the sticks is not an easy task, and those teams that possess them tend to keep hold of them for long periods of time.

So the majority, if not all, of the names on this list have established themselves as legends at one Premier League club or another.

Press the next page as we look at the top five best keepers of the last thirty years.

5) Joe Hart

This may be a controversial inclusion if you are not a City supporter, and even though the England international has suffered an alarmingly loss of form in recent years, it is easy to forget how good he once was.

Hart is just one clean sheet (127) behind Peter Schmeichel during the Premier League era and has played just 30 games more than the United legend. 37.35% of his league games have ended without him conceding a goal.

4) Edwin van der Sar

The first of two United keepers on this list, the Dutchman had an odd career. Starring first at Ajax before an ill-fated move to Juventus. A switch to Fulham revived his career before he finally returned to the top of the game with United.

132 clean sheets in 313 Premier League games for both the Red Devils and the Cottagers is an impressive record, and he deserves to be included on this list.

3) David Seaman

The Arsenal legend was a prominent figure for most of Arsene Wenger’s golden period in charge of the Gunners, and he was a reliable and trustworthy shot-stopper for both club and country.

Seaman actually finished his career at City, but injury meant he opted to retire just six months after arriving in Manchester. He managed to keep 140 clean sheets in 344 league games.

2) Peter Schmeichel

The Dane will be remembered mostly for his spell at Old Trafford, where he intimated opposition strikers with his imposing size and reach.

Like Seaman, Schmeichel also finished his career at City, although by that time he was well past his prime. His best years came in the 90s when he lifted five league titles under Alex Ferguson.

1) Petr Cech

The Czech international kept an astonishing 202 clean sheets during his time at Chelsea and Arsenal; the only keeper to reach a double century.

In his eleven years at Stamford Bridge, Cech won four golden gloves as well as a whole host of trophies, including four Premier League titles.
