TOP FIVE Best Performing Players At The 2022 World Cup (Based On WhoScored’s Ratings)

With the World Cup having come to an end last Sunday with a thrilling final between Argentina and France, we have decided to look at the best performing players in the competition.

A lot of fans will have their own opinions on who stood out at the tournament but, today, we will be ranking the top performers based on their WhoScored rating.

The top five actually has a couple of surprise names in it, although the player who comes first on this list won’t come as a shock to anyone.

Press the next page as we count down the top rated stars of the 2022 World Cup.

5) Jean-Charles Castelletto (Cameroon) – 7.71

The 27-year-old may have only played two group matches in the competition but he was excellent despite Cameroon losing to Switzerland and drawing against Serbia.

Ironically, the game that Castelletto didn’t play in was their victory versus Brazil, where they kept a clean sheet.

4) Wojciech Szczesny (Poland) – 7.88

Poland played pretty defensively in all of their matches at the tournament, and it meant that Szczesny was kept busy in between the sticks.

The Juventus keeper kept two clean sheets versus Mexico and Saudi Arabia, before conceding five in the next two fixtures against Argentina and France.

3) Kylian Mbappe (France) – 8.00

Already a World Cup winner after his sublime displays in 2018, the Frenchman cemented his legendary status with eight goals and two assists in 7 matches during the tournament in Qatar.

Mbappe got himself a hat-trick in the final and, while he did his own job in the shoot-out, it wasn’t enough to prevent Argentina from taking the crown.

2) Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) – 8.15

The Manchester United playmaker has begun to rediscover his best form, and he was impressive during Portugal’s run to the quarter-finals.

Fernandes scored twice and contributed three assists despite only playing four times, after being rested in the final group fixture against South Korea.

1) Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 8.25

As we said in the intro, it will come as a surprise to no one that the Argentinian legend comes out on top of this list, having dragged his team to the final.

Messi scored seven goals to help his country become world champions, and it has prompted many to crown him the greatest of all time.
