TOP FIVE Midfielders Who Will Become Free Agents At The End Of This Month

Ilkay Gundogan playing for Manchester City.

After looking at the strikers who could soon be available on free transfers last week, we now move on to the midfielders.

On this list, we won’t be including players who have already found new clubs, such as Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

This post will focus solely on those stars who are expected to become free agents when their current deals expire on June 30th.

Press the next page as we list five midfielders whose contracts end this month.

1) Adrien Rabiot – Juventus

The midfielder has not accepted a new contract to stay at Juve beyond the end of this season.

At this moment in time, Rabiot will be a free agent in just a couple of weeks’ time, and he is likely to be a player in demand.

The 28-year-old has had a very strong season at club and international level, scoring 11 goals for Juventus, and helping France to the World Cup final.

A number of teams in the Premier League have been linked, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham so we shall see where he ends up.

2) Daichi Kamada – Eintracht Frankfurt

With a record of 16 goals and 7 assists in 47 appearances this season, you would have thought that more clubs would be pursuing the Japanese international’s signature.

Kamada will leave Frankfurt after six years in the Bundesliga at the end of June, and his likeliest destination appears to be Italy.

Although there have been rumours that Liverpool may make an offer to snap up the 26-year-old, AC Milan are thought to be heavy favourites to sign him.

A verbal agreement has reportedly been reached but he still needs to sign on the dotted line with the Rossoneri.

3) Ilkay Gundogan – Manchester City

The City captain’s future has been uncertain for quite some time. Gundogan has still not made a decision on whether he wants to stay at the Etihad or not.

The treble winners have offered the 32-year-old a twelve-month contract extension but the player is said to want a longer-term deal.

Pep Guardiola is keen for Gundogan to remain in Manchester but there are other teams who are prepared to offer him better terms.

Barcelona have reportedly tabled a two-year contract, with an option for a further year, while Arsenal are also thought to be in the mix.

4) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Liverpool

A trio of midfielders are leaving Anfield this summer, but vice-captain James Milner (Brighton) and Naby Keita (Werder Bremen) have already found new teams.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future, on the other hand, is still up in the air, although it is believed that he will remain in England, rather than seek a move abroad.

Aston Villa are currently the favourites to land the 29-year-old, who has had his fair share of injuries during his six-year stint with the Reds.

Having already signed Youri Tielemans on a free transfer, though, we shall see if Villa do make a concerted to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain as well.

5) Ross Barkley – Nice

Nice have officially confirmed that the former Everton and Chelsea midfielder will be released when his current deal expires on June 30th.

Barkley only joined the Ligue One side back in September, but he clearly didn’t do enough to get a longer-term contract.

Four goals and two assists in 28 appearances is not a particularly impressive record, and he may struggle to find a team in England’s top flight that will take him.

Now 29, Barkley does look to be one of those cases where you wonder whether he could have done more with his talent.
