TOP FIVE PL Stars Who Were The Quickest To Score Their First 20 League Goals

The Premier League is widely regarded as the toughest top-flight division in world football to score goals in.

Some highly regarded players, such as Andrey Shevchenko and Radamel Falcao, have struggled to make their mark during spells in England.

It is, therefore, quite some achievement to hit the ground running when playing for a Premier League team, but the five players on our list all made an instant impact.

Press the next page as we go through the stars who were the quickest to reach 20 league goals.

5) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) – 30 Games

The Citizens made a big statement when they shelled out £35m on the Argentinian international in the summer of 2011, but the striker settled in straight away.

Aguero bagged 23 goals in total during his first season in England before going on to reach double figures in nine successive campaigns for City.

4) Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers) – 29 Games

The England legend is the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer but he wasn’t as quick out of the blocks as some other players on our list.

Shearer actually scored 16 in his first season before sustaining an ACL injury. He then carried on from where he left off the following campaign.

3) Fernando Torres (Liverpool) – 27 Games

Like Aguero, who also moved from Atletico Madrid to join a Premier League team, Torres was an instant success when he joined Liverpool for £20m at the beginning of the 2007/08 season.

Torres’s pace and physicality seemed a perfect fit for English football and he ended up with 24 league goals in total.

2) Kevin Phillips (Sunderland) – 21 Games

The English forward had just come off the back of a season where he scored 23 goals in the second tier for the Black Cats but newly-promoted teams do tend to struggle during the first campaign in the Premier League.

However, Phillips had no problems with the step up in quality, getting to 20 goals in record time before finishing the 1999/20 season with 30, winning the Golden Boot in the process.

1) Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 14 Games

Most would probably have guessed that the Norwegian would top this list after an incredible first campaign with the Premier League champions.

Haaland is currently on course to break Mo Salah’s Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season, and he may also beat the mark set by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole who both scored 34 in 42-game campaigns.
