TOP FIVE Players With The Most Goal Line Clearances In Premier League History

To clear the ball off the line, you have to have certain instincts to sense danger, as well as the technique in order to hook the ball clear before it goes in.

Good reaction times are also required, especially if you are a man on the post at a corner when a shot is flashed towards goal.

It is not a common occurrence but those types of last-ditch clearances can be crucial in earning your side a draw or even a win.

Press the next page as we list the five players with the most goal line clearances in the Premier League era.

5) Phil Bardsley 10 Times In 303 Apps

There were actually a number of players who had cleared the ball off the line on ten occasions but the right-back has done it in the second-fewest Premier League appearances.

Believe it or not, Bardsley is only the first of two current Burnley players who has made our top five for goal line clearances.

4) Steven Taylor – 10 Times In 194 Apps

The defender’s career was blighted by injuries but he did manage to save his team from conceding a number of times.

All of Taylor’s appearances in the Premier League came for Newcastle, but after leaving the Magpies in 2016, he has gone on to play in the United States, India and Australia. He retired from professional football back in September.

3) Ben Mee – 11 Times

The 32-year-old is the second Clarets player on our list, and it seems like last-ditch defending is simply part of the job if you are playing at Turf Moor.

Sean Dyche’s side do tend to defend deep, and it seems getting back onto the line is a habit he instils in all of his players. It has certainly saved them a fair few goals.

2) Titus Bramble – 12 Times

The former Newcastle and Sunderland defender didn’t do things by halves. Own goals, last-ditch tackles, poor passes and, evidently, goal line clearances were all part of his game.

Bramble won’t go down as one of the greatest Premier League defenders, but you were always bound to have an interesting match when he was on the teamsheet!

1) Joleon Lescott – 13 Times

The former Manchester City defender was a very consistent player throughout his time in the Premier League, playing at the highest level for many years.

Lescott seemingly had the instinct to get back on his line when he sensed danger and he saved the most goals of any outfield player in Premier League history.
