Top Five Strikers Of The Premier League Era

Following our list of the top five playmakers in Premier League history last time out, it is now the turn of the strikers.

Whittling down this list to just five was extremely difficult, and there are some, like Andy Cole, we could or perhaps should have been included.

However, the names we have gone for all merit their inclusion considering the impact they have had on English football over the past thirty years.

Press the next page as we go through our five best forwards of the Premier League era.

5) Harry Kane

With a strike rate of one goal in every 1.48 games, it was hard to keep the Tottenham striker off the list. At 26 years of age, he has scored 138 league goals, just 37 off Thierry Henry who is sixth in the all-time standings.

If Kane stays injury-free, he could rack up a huge number of goals over the next six to seven years, and I don’t think you can argue against him already being one of the best strikers of the last 30 years.

4) Didier Drogba

The Ivorian may have not been as prolific as other players on this list but if you ask defenders which player they most feared coming up against, it was the Chelsea legend.

Drogba’s physicality, strength and speed, as well as his undoubted finishing ability, made him a nightmare for any defence. In his prime, he was very hard to stop.

3) Sergio Aguero

There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said about the City legend. Capable of scoring tap ins from three yards out, as well as screamers from outside the box, he has been a goalscoring machine since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Aguero has hit 20 league goals in six of his nine seasons in England, which shows both his quality and his consistency. He is fourth on the Premier League all-time goalscorers list.

2) Alan Shearer

The Geordie won the title with Blackburn Rovers in 1996 before returning to his home city of Newcastle to play the majority of his career. Despite playing in a struggling team, he still ended up scoring 260 league goals in 441 appearances.

Shearer is rightly heralded as one of the greatest goalscorers England has ever produced and his finishing ability was second to none.

1) Thierry Henry

It took the Arsenal legend a bit of time to settle in England, but when he did, watching him was an incredible sight to see. He combined French flair with speed to beguile opposing defenders.

Henry would have added many more to his total of 175 goals if he had opted to remain with the Gunners, but he should be remembered as the best forward the Premier League has ever seen.
