TOP TEN ‘Most Promising Youngsters’ In English Football (Part 2)

Garnacho

After going through positions 10 to 6 in our post profiling the most promising youngsters in England last week, we now move on to the top five.

This list is based on data published by the CIES Football Observatory who have assessed players under the age of 21 from across 75 leagues around the world.

They use a method that takes into account the match level, minutes played and age of a footballer to come up with a “Relative Experience” score.

Press the next page as we countdown the five best youngsters based at English clubs.

5) Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United) – 2.30

The Argentinian starlet has broken into United’s first team this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions.

Despite only being 18 years of age, Garnacho already looks ready to make an impact at the highest level, and manager Erik ten Hag has a great deal of confidence in him.

The teenager signed a new contract last week to keep him at Old Trafford for another five years.

4) Alex Scott (Bristol City) – 2.40

After Manchester City faced Bristol City in the FA Cup earlier this season, manager Pep Guardiola labelled the midfielder an “unbelievable” talent.

You can’t get higher praise than that and, after two full seasons being a regular starter in the Championship, Scott could get a move to the Premier League this summer.

Liverpool, West Ham and Wolves are all said to be keeping an eye on the 19-year-old, who could fetch in excess of £20m if he is sold.

3) Facundo Buonanotte (Brighton) – 2.43

The Seagulls appear to have plucked another very talented player from South American football based on his early performances for the south coast club.

Buonanotte joined Brighton from Rosario Central for £5.3m at the start of the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old made his first appearance in early February against Bournemouth, and he scored his first goal on his full debut versus Nottingham Forest just over a week ago.

2) Matheus Martins (Watford) – 2.56

Technically, the Brazilian is owned by Udinese, but he has yet to play for the Italian club, having been immediately loaned out to Watford in January.

Martins was linked with a number of Premier League teams but he has been cutting his teeth with the Hornets since the New Year.

After making six appearances, though, he has not made a matchday squad since late February and he has been spending time with the Under 21s.

1) Wilfried Gnonto (Leeds) – 2.57

The teenager joined Leeds for a bargain £3.8m from FC Zurich last summer and he has been making a good impression during his first season in England.

Gnonto has scored four goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances this campaign, which is not a bad return for a 19-year-old.

The winger is already a fully-fledged Italian international and he has recently been linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.
