Alan Shearer has selected Manchester City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in his official Premier League Team of the Week.

While De Bruyne got a brace of assists in the 4-1 win over Southampton at the weekend, Haaland scored twice, with the second being an acrobatic bicycle kick which Shearer singled out for praise:

“Another day, another Haaland brace, but that second goal was quite spectacular!”

In terms of the rest of Shearer’s team, he went with Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale in goal, with a back three of Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate and West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna.

De Bruyne was joined in midfield by Bournemouth’s Philip Billing, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Newcastle’s Joelinton. Up front, Shearer picked Palace winger Michael Olise and Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli alongside Haaland.

While De Bruyne has now reached an incredible 100 Premier League assists, Haaland is closing in on the record for most goals in a single season. He is just two behind Mo Salah’s current milestone.
