The FIVE Wealthiest Owners In The Premier League (Prior To The Newcastle Takeover)

With Newcastle United poised for a takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, we thought it would be interesting to compare their worth to other owners currently in the Premier League.

At the time of writing, the fund, which is worth £320bn, has not officially been confirmed as having bought the Magpies’ from current owner Mike Ashley.

However, if they do, as expected, complete their takeover they would potentially be the richest team in England.

For now, though, press the next page as we count down the five wealthiest owners (currently) in the Premier League.

5) Guo Guangchang (£4.5bn) – Wolves

The Chinese billionaire took over the Midlands club in 2016 and oversaw their rise from a Championship team into an established Premier League club.

Guangchang is the owner of the Fosun Group, which is a Chinese conglomerate that invests in numerous markets and industries.

4) Nassef Sawiris (£5.3bn) – Aston Villa

The Villans were in financial difficulty following the controversial reign of Tony Xia, but the 2-time European champions were saved by the Egyptian billionaire, who took a 55% stake in the club.

Sawiris, however, shares ownership with multi-millionaire, Wes Edens, whose personal wealth is believed to be around £900m.

3) Stan Kroenke (£6.35bn) – Arsenal

The American first purchased stakes in the Gunners almost 14 years ago but he became the majority shareholder in 2011. His reign has been controversial, with many fans feeling that the London club has been treading water since his arrival as owner.

Kroenke did, however, invest heavily in the transfer market during the summer and it is hoped that it is a sign of a renewed commitment to Arsenal.

2) Roman Abramovich (£9.6bn) – Chelsea

The Russian took control of the Blues back in 2003. It was the first significant takeover by a foreign owner in English football and it led to a period of sustained success for the London club.

While Chelsea have never established total dominance in the Premier League, they have still won five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues over the past two decades.

1) Sheikh Mansour (£22.9bn) – Manchester City

Mansour is the deputy PM of the United Arab Emirates but he is also the founder of the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, which bought the Citizens in 2008.

Since then, Mansour has invested heavily into the Manchester club, winning numerous domestic trophies in the process. The City Football Group, run by Mansour, now has 10 teams under its umbrella.
