City Legend Considered As Shock Contender For Chelsea Job

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is one of a number of candidates that have been shortlisted to become Chelsea’s next permanent head coach, according to The Times.

The newspaper claims that the City legend is among the options that the Blues have considered. Julian Nagelsmann is thought to be the frontrunner but Kompany, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim and Luciano Spalletti are also in the frame:

While Kompany is still very much an outsider to replace Frank Lampard in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, his stock in the game is on the rise after guiding Burnley to promotion from the Championship in his first season with the Clarets.

Some have tipped the 38-year-old to be Pep Guardiola’s successor when he leaves the Etihad, and the Spaniard has already given his approval, by stating that Kompany’s “destiny” is to become City boss “sooner or later.”

While City fans may be concerned about Chelsea‘s interest, it is actually Tottenham who are more likely to hire him. Bookmakers have made the Belgian the favourite to succeed Cristian Stellini at the end of the season.
