“On Another Level” – Shearer Praises City Ace As He’s Named Alongside Arsenal And Everton Stars In Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Alan Shearer has singled out Bernardo Silva for praise after the Manchester City midfielder starred in the win over rivals Manchester United at the weekend.

Silva was extremely influential in the 3-0 demolition, with Shearer claiming the Portuguese international was a class apart in helping this team secure a comfortable three points away from home:

“He was on another level. Crossed for Haaland’s second and was the best player at Old Trafford.”

Silva popped up all over the pitch, with United unable to limit his influence on proceedings. Fans will be absolutely delighted that he signed a new contract in the summer after it previously looked like he would be leaving the Etihad.

With Ilkay Gundogan having already left the club and Kevin De Bruyne currently out injured, Silva’s creativity has been indispensable in the opening few months of the season, with City needing to keep pace with those above them in the Premier League table.

In addition to Silva, Shearer picked Ederson in goal, after the Brazilian made two very good saves against United, as well as distributing the ball with his trademark accuracy.

Erling Haaland was given a mention, having scored a brace at Old Trafford, with Shearer commenting that United “simply couldn’t handle” the Norwegian international. John Stones also made the XI for his impressive display in the centre of defence.

Who else was selected in Shearer’s Team?

In addition to Stones, Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite were chosen in a back three by Shearer.

Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Everton’s Andre Onana and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo joined Silva in midfield. Up front, Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, who scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United on Saturday, was included alongside Newcastle’s Callum Wilson and Haaland.
