Pep Guardiola says there is a “99.99 percent possibility” that Manchester City will not secure a treble for a second season in a row.

Speaking about the club’s chances of repeating the remarkable feat, Guardiola cited the fact that Manchester United never replicated their treble in 1999 so he can’t see his team doing it either:

“We have 99.99 percent possibility that we are not going to win the treble because it has never ever, ever been done. The chances to do it again are like this (shows tiny gap between thumb and index finger) minimal. If it was easy, another team (Manchester) United in that time would have done it again. It’s not easy.”

When asked to assess the club’s chances of winning the Premier League this campaign, though, Guardiola was somewhat more confident:

“What I like is that we are still there. We are close to the top of the league, we are in the other competitions.”

What is City’s status in all 3 competitions?

The reigning champions are currently 2 points adrift of Liverpool and level with Arsenal in the Premier League table. However, they do have a game in hand which they play against Brentford next week.

However, their most immediate concern is defending their Champions League crown. They take on FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday night, before playing the second leg at the start of next month.

At the end of February, City face Luton Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Hatters showed themselves to be tough opponents during the league fixture at Kenilworth Road back in December, but the away side will be strong favourites to qualify for the quarter-finals.

What are the odds of another treble happening?

While Guardiola seems doubtful of repeating last season’s heroics, the bookmakers are slightly more optimistic that it could happen again.
