Gary Neville Claims Chelsea Display Forced Him To Reevaluate “Great” City Side

Gary Neville believes Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea was a telling reminder of how good Pep Guardiola’s team can be.

The Sky Sports pundit has been pushing Chelsea as title contenders this season but, after seeing the two sides go head to head last weekend, he claims the Citizens demonstrated why they are the current Premier League champions:

“I’ve talked about Chelsea glowingly on the last few weeks, but sometimes a great team just reminds you what you are. I thought City on Saturday reminded us what they are. To go to Chelsea, who are in that form with three big results – a draw at Liverpool, beating Arsenal, beating Spurs – and then City beat them away 1-0. City were fantastic on Saturday, and they should have won by more. That was really impressive from City.”

It does tend to be the way with pundits. They can be too quick to write off teams, while at the same too fast to promote others as potential title favourites. Neville is just admitting he may have been too quick to judge.

Considering Pep Guardiola has overseen three league titles in the last four seasons, nobody should ever discount him and his team. They have had some dodgy displays against the likes of Spurs and Southampton this campaign but they will surely be there or thereabouts come May.

After taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tonight, they will be facing another test of their title credentials when they play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. You wouldn’t bet against them getting another victory either.
