Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he realises how “important” it is now to have the “right owners” after questioning Bournmouth’s decision to sack Scott Parker.

The Cherries were on the wrong end of a 9-0 hiding at Anfield on Saturday but, when asked to give his take on the decision, he contrasted “country-owned” teams (i.e City) and clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal who go about their business very differently:

“When I heard [the Scott Parker news] today I realised how important it is in this moment to have the right owners at the football club. Some clubs are owned by countries but others have a structure like us and maybe Arsenal. Then three teams who came up, Nottingham [Forest] are spending, Fulham are and I can’t remember Bournemouth doing a lot, which is difficult for a coach. I felt for Scott.”

Klopp’s veiled dig at the likes of City is rather bizarre. Why he felt the need to drag the Premier League champions into a debate about Parker’s sacking is anyone’s guess.

He may believe that Liverpool and Arsenal are better run because of the “structure” that they have put in place, but City’s outstanding trophy haul in recent years kind of refutes that point.

Of course, he’s probably suggesting that the Citizens and Newcastle have money to throw at problems, while others don’t, but there’s no need to make a point about that when discussing Bournemouth’s situation.
