Jeremie Frimpong Issues Verdict On Who Is Superior Out Of Sergio Aguero And Robin Van Persie

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong claims he would rather have played alongside former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie than Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero.

Frimpong was speaking to Goal’s TikTok channel when he was asked to compare the two forwards. He chose Aguero in three categories: dribbling, strength and ‘clutch moments’, while he went with van Persie’s shooting, passing, football IQ and leadership. Despite favouring his fellow Dutchman in his responses, though, Frimpong did look back with affection at one key moment involving Aguero: the famous goal against QPR in 2012:

“Bro, I was ball boy. I ran on the pitch.”

Frimpong was actually in City’s academy at the time, having been in the club’s youth system from an early age. However, he didn’t make his senior debut before leaving the Etihad.

The wingback’s career has flourished since moving away from City

After departing the Cityzens in September 2019, he spent 16 months at Celtic, where he established himself as a regular starter at the Scottish club, winning the league title as well as two domestic cups.

Leverkusen then snapped up Frimpong for €11m at the start of 2021 and he has spent the last 3+ years in Germany where he has developed into a very attack-minded fullback.

In all competitions this season, the Netherlands international has scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 42 appearances.

Could Frimpong return to City in the future?

After an outstanding campaign, which has seen his Leverkusen team win the Bundesliga title, the wingback is expected to be in demand this summer.

Frimpong reportedly has a €40m (£34m) release clause in his contract, which will make him a very attractive target. The Cityzens have been mentioned as one of many suitors, along with the likes of Manchester United.

He could well be among the names considered as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker. The England international will turn 34 later this month.
