City Given July Deadline To Seal £56M Transfer As Contact Is Made With 33 Cap International

The release clause of Manchester City target Dani Olmo expires in July, according to Sport Bild (via Sport Witness).

The German magazine claims that the Premier League champions have been in contact with the RB Leipzig attacking midfielder about a potential move this summer.

However, they have yet to firm up their interest in Olmo despite knowing that the window to sign him for a relatively affordable price won’t be open for long.

Sport Bild report that the Spaniard, who has been capped 33 times by his country, will cost only €65m (£56m) as long as City make the offer before the buyout clause expires.

City will have an “advantage” over other clubs in negotiations

It was reported by Sport Bild‘s sister publication last month that the Cityzens held a key “advantage” in the race to secure Olmo’s services.

After negotiating a deal for Josko Gvardiol last summer, the Manchester club have managed to develop good relations with Leipzig officials, which should help any deal progress if and when talks begin over the coming weeks for Olmo.

Who else is interested in buying Olmo?

It is believed that Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been keeping tabs on the 26-year-old’s situation in recent months but, like City, they haven’t pushed ahead to make a formal approach yet.

One of the things that may be holding teams back from paying Olmo’s release fee is his poor fitness record. The Spaniard has only started 17 league matches so far this campaign due to injuries.

The midfielder spent a month out with a knee problem back in October and he then dislocated his shoulder not long after making his comeback, keeping him on the sidelines until the winter break. He has, though, managed to avoid any further issues during the second half of the season.
