Arsenal And Chelsea Are Among The Clubs ‘Willing To Bid’ For City Loanee But He Is ‘Not Listening To Offers’

Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo wants to stay at Barcelona on a permanent basis when his loan deal expires at the end of the season, according to Sport.

The Catalan publication reports that Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and teams in Saudi Arabia are “willing to bid” for the Portuguese international.

However, Cancelo is “not listening to offers” as he has his heart set on staying at the Camp Nou beyond the summer.

The defender has been a regular in Barca’s first team this campaign, having made 33 appearances in all competitions, making 30 starts in total.

City have set an asking price for Cancelo

Sport claim that the Premier League champions are demanding €40m (£34m) for the 29-year-old. There is no purchase clause in the current loan deal so Barca will have to enter negotiations if they want the player.

It is believed that the La Liga side would prefer another loan deal but with an obligation to buy at the end of next season. It wouldn’t be a straight upfront fee even then, though, with there being discussions about potential add-ons.

The right-back has burned his bridges at the club

Speaking in a recent interview with the Portuguese media, Cancelo effectively accused manager Pep Guardiola of lying about the reason for his decision to leave the Etihad.

At the time, it was suggested that the player was unhappy about his lack of game time but Cancelo says that wasn’t the case:

“Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad teammate for them and you can ask either [Nathan] Ake or Rico [Lewis]. I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.”

It is, therefore, not a surprise that City are keen to offload the player permanently when his time at Barcelona comes to an end.
