Guardiola Says Final Day Showdown Is On The Cards As He Makes Prediction About Liverpool And Arsenal

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes the Premier League title race is likely to go down to the final day of the season.

Speaking after the 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night, Guardiola said he can’t see their rivals Liverpool and Arsenal winning all their remaining fixtures and that means it will be tight at the the top until gameweek 38 in May:

“If we win all our games, it will be down to the last day because they are not five, six, seven points in front. It will not be easy. I see Liverpool and Arsenal dropping points, but you never know.”

“We have to show up and do our job, and don’t regret that we should have won that game because they lost the game after. We cannot do anything. We cannot control what they do. We have to win our games, that’s all we can do.”

Guardiola hits the nail on the head

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have some tough games coming up. The Reds travel to Old Trafford this weekend, while they also face archrivals Everton at Goodison Park soon.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have a North London derby versus Tottenham, in addition to fixtures against Villa, Chelsea, Brighton and Manchester United. Considering City’s somewhat easier run-in, there’s a decent chance they could be top going into the final game.

City’s experience will be crucial

The reigning champions have shown they can chase down title rivals, as well as being frontrunners over the years. Whatever happens over the coming weeks, you would back them to still be in contention when they take on Everton in their last match on May 19th.

As we saw against Villa midweek, this City team know how to get the job done when under pressure, and we shall see how the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool cope when put under the same scrutiny.
