Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Sergio Aguero could miss the rest of the Premier League season after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury.
The Argentinian international started the 5-0 win against Burnley yesterday evening but he was replaced by Gabriel Jesus just before half time.
Guardiola said Aguero had been dealing with the issue since returning to training, but he could now be out for the remaining league fixtures:
“It doesn’t look good, unfortunately. We are going to see tomorrow. He was struggling in the last month with a problem in the knee and now he felt something so we will see tomorrow exactly what he has but it doesn’t look good for this season.”
“Tomorrow we will see and know exactly what he has. The doctor says it will take time. A few games [out] for sure but maybe tomorrow the tests he will get good news – we will see.”
Fans on Twitter are hoping Aguero makes a speedy recovery:

Some supporters do feel, though, it could give Gabriel Jesus more opportunities to shine:
I love watching Sergio. But, gloom & doom is not warranted. Jesus is a very good player & a decent finisher. He gets about the pitch & works hard too. If anything happens to him, remember that we have had some really exceptional performances with a 'false number 9'.

Jesus is fantastic now anyway and will work harder. Still sad to see him get injured of course.

It is believed that the 32-year-old could well have an operation to repair the meniscus in his knee, but there is some optimism he could return for City’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
The second leg of the last 16 tie is expected to take place on August 7th or August 8th, which means Aguero has the best part of six and a half weeks to recover his fitness. It will likely be a race against time for him to return for the season-defining match.
