Manchester City are planning to offer centre-back John Stones a contract extension, according to reports in the English media.
The 26-year-old has worked his way back into manager Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans this season, having struck up a good partnership with Ruben Dias in recent matches.
However, despite Stones having started four of the last five Premier League games, some supporters on Twitter are yet to be convinced that the player deserves a new deal:
Seems a bit premature. But if it means he doesn’t end up leaving then it’s probably a good idea.

Yes, he’s back to the promise he was showing when we signed him with Ruben Dias at his side

Hold fire on that one. Let’s see if this form continues

Deserve?!! It would be terrible business for @ManCity to not offer him one

The club should wait until the end of the season tbh. I don’t want another Sterling scenario where they keep getting raises but aren’t performing any better.

Not yet … He has had a great month, but we can’t forget previous two seasons, he needs to shoe more for a new contract…

10 good games and I don’t see why “he will be out of the team soon”

It has been quite a turnaround for Stones. The player was linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham over the summer after getting limited first-team opportunities last campaign, but Guardiola has obviously seen something in training which has persuaded him to move the defender above the likes of Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order.
In regards to the contract, Stones’ current deal expires in 2022 so a decision will have to made on the player’s future very soon anyway and it looks like they will try to keep him.
