After 16 Games Played, Supercomputer Predicts Where Every Club Will Finish In The 2023/24 Premier League Table

We are now 16 games into the Premier League campaign and the stat boffins at Opta have offered a fresh update on their predicted final league table.

The statisticians run 1000s of simulations on matches between now and the end of the season in May to calculate all 20 clubs’ final league position.

As we near the halfway mark of the campaign, supporters will undoubtedly be keen to discover where their team could finish.

Press the next page as we list Opta’s predicted final table for the 2023/24 Premier League season (as of 14th December 2023).

The 3 relegated teams

20th: Sheffield United
19th: Burnley
18th: Luton Town

It does look like the three promoted teams are set to go straight back down at the moment.

They were given some hope after Everton’s 10-point deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

However, the Toffees have already got themselves out of the relegation places and away from trouble.

While Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton have shown that they can be competitive at this level, with some good recent results, it may not be enough for them to survive.

Narrowly missing out on the drop

17th: Nottingham Forest
16th: Crystal Palace
15th: Everton
14th: Wolverhampton Wanderers

As mentioned, Everton boss Sean Dyche has masterminded some great results recently, with wins over Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Chelsea.

It means that others around them are looking over their shoulders, especially Crystal Palace whose form has been very poor recently.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson hasn’t endeared himself by criticising his own fans for their lack of support.

He has since apologised but you do get the sense that there may be a change in the dugout at Selhurst Park if things don’t improve soon.

Mid-table mediocrity

13th: Bournemouth
12th: Brentford
11th: Fulham
10th: Chelsea

Bournemouth have shot up the table, having gone on a 5-match unbeaten run, which led to them beating Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford last week.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola has seemingly managed to get his ideas across to his players and they are now reaping the benefits.

Fulham have also seen their fortunes improve markedly recently, having scored 17 goals in their past four matches, including 5-0 wins over Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

Despite having spent huge amounts of money, Chelsea have continued to labour, with recent defeats to United and Everton leading to further recriminations.

Top 10 competitors

9th: West Ham United
8th: Manchester United
7th: Brighton & Hove Albion
6th: Newcastle United

None of these four clubs have been in great form. As we have said, West Ham and Manchester United both suffered embarrassing defeats last weekend.

Brighton recently drew at home to Burnley, while Newcastle were beaten 4-1 by Spurs, with their Champions League exploits clearly taking a toll.

At the moment, you wouldn’t bet on any of them competing for Champions League spots at the end of the season.

Of course, things could change over the Christmas period but it hasn’t been a good month or so for the likes of Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe.

Champions League qualification

5th: Tottenham Hotspur
4th: Aston Villa
3rd: Arsenal
2nd: Liverpool
1st: Manchester City

Despite trailing top spot by four points, Opta are still convinced that City will retain the Premier League title.

Based on previous years, where they have come on strong in the second half of the season, there are good reasons for backing Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, they are currently below a resurgent Aston Villa, who beat the Cityzens last week. Unai Emery’s side have won every match at home this campaign and they followed up their win over the reigning champions by beating Arsenal a few days later.

That loss for the Gunners saw Liverpool take the lead at the top, although Opta believe they won’t stay there.
