‘That Is Way Too Low’ ‘Cheap In My Opinion’ – Fans On Social Media Frustrated By City’s £21.5m Asking Price For Star

Manchester City will only demand €25m (£21.5m) for Ilkay Gundogan in the summer, according to reports in Italy.

Inter Milan are said to be interested in the 28-year-old with the midfielder unwilling to sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan’s current contract expires in 2020 and will be available on a free transfer in just over 12 months time, leading City to seek buyers for the German.

Fans on Twitter are unhappy that the club are not seeking a larger transfer fee:

One of the big considerations is Gundogan’s age. The player turns 29 in October, and it means you can’t compare him to similar deals like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move to Liverpool and Ross Barkley’s move to Chelsea.

Both players were 25 when they were sold and therefore had a greater sell-on value. It meant Arsenal were able to get £35m for Chamberlain with a year left on his deal at the Emirates while Everton received £15m for Barkley with six months to go.
