The Five Premier League Players Who Average The MOST Shots Per 90 Minutes This Season

It seems rather obvious but, the more shots you have on goal, the more chance you have of scoring.

The teams at the top of the Premier League generally end the season having had the most attempts on goal, and inevitably, players from those clubs usually get the most chances to shoot.

Being a prolific shooter doesn’t always mean you are a great goalscorer, though, as we will demonstrate when looking through the players on this list.

Press the next page as we countdown the Premier League stars who average the most shots per 90 minutes this campaign.

5) Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea – (4.00 shots per 90)

The Blues’ record signing is certainly getting into positions to shoot and his three league goals suggest he is well within his rights to try his luck in front of goal.

Lukaku has had 12 shots in three appearances, having already played the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa, showing he is going to be a threat against all standards of opponent in the top flight.

4) Michail Antonio – West Ham – (4.30 shots per 90)

The 31-year-old is the Hammers’ main goal threat so it is not surprising that he is pretty prolific in terms of getting his shots away on the opponent’s goal.

Antonio has four goals from 17 attempts, and that is a pretty impressive conversion rate of 23.5%, so if he can sustain the number of shots he is currently averaging, he could be in line to score a hatful.

3) Riyad Mahrez – Manchester City – (4.35 shots per 90)

The Algerian international may have scored only one league goal in the opening four games but he hasn’t been shy about unleashing a shot on goal.

Most of Mahrez’s minutes in the Premier League this campaign actually came in the season opener when City lost 1-0 to Tottenham, so his average number of shots is likely to go down once he has played more matches.

2) Raheem Sterling – Manchester City – (4.53 shots per 90)

City’s dominance in matches mean their forwards will shoot a fair bit more than players who play in the same position at other teams, but Sterling’s numbers are still very high.

Considering he has only scored once in the Premier League, it does suggest that he may be trying shots on from angles and areas on the pitch where he isn’t that likely to score from.

1) Sadio Mane – Liverpool – (5.75 shots per 90)

The Liverpool forward has only scored two goals in his first four Premier League matches but he is way out in front on his own when it comes to shooting.

It’s likely that the average will come down as the season goes on but, even so, Mane is shooting way more than he usually does. With only 26.1% on target, he has been pretty inaccurate too.
