“They’re Too Good” Paul Merson Makes Confident Premier League Title Prediction

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says he would be “shocked” if Manchester City don’t win the title following their draw against Liverpool at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side know that if they win their last seven games they will be crowned champions and Merson says he cannot see the Citizens dropping points:

“It’s not over as you just never know but I’d be shocked if Man City didn’t win the Premier League from this position. It would be a major shock as I think they’re too good. Both they and Liverpool are amazing teams and I don’t see anything other than City reeling off the wins they need. I don’t see them dropping a point.”

“There’s no doubt that Liverpool have still got harder fixtures. It would be a different game if City had Liverpool’s games. Manchester United at Anfield isn’t the hardest game in the world but surely they’re going to turn up for that?”

“They’ve still got to play Tottenham at home, who are fighting for the Champions League whereas you look at Manchester City and their next two games are gimmes – Brighton and Watford at home. I don’t see anything other than City winning the league.”

Merson is absolutely right to make City the firm favourites. Not only do they have an easier run-in than Liverpool, as he points out, they have also shown themselves to be great frontrunners in the past.

In an almost identical situation during the 2018/19 season, they reeled off an incredible 14 consecutive wins to clinch the title so there should be no questions about their mentality this time either.

Of course, having lost a significant lead to Liverpool will be a concern, but their performances recently have shown that they are very capable of going on yet another long winning streak.
