Wigan Athletic added insult to injury following Monday’s victory over Manchester City after opting to play Oasis at the full-time whistle.
The Latics pulled off a shock victory over Pep Guardiola’s men on Monday evening, ending the Citizen’s hopes of securing an historic quadruple.
Will Grigg scored the only goal of the game late-on to gift the League One side a memorable victory.
“It was a massive night for the club and a hell of a performance from the lads,” said Grigg following the victory, “It’s one of those nights to enjoy, but it’s a quick turnaround and we must focus on Rochdale now.
“We knew it was going to be a tough night, but we had to go out and enjoy the occasion.”
On scoring the winner, he said: “I managed to get the goal at a great time and to be fair to the lads it’s an unbelievable performance all round.
“We defended for our lives, especially in the last 10 minutes and everyone has to take credit for that.
“I didn’t have the energy to celebrate. I took in the moment, it was something special to me to be able to look up at my family and take the occasion in.”
However, not content with just the victory, those in charge at the DW decided to add insult to injury when they played Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ through the tannoy at full-time.
The Manchester-born band are perhaps the club’s most famous of the club’s fans, and their songs have become somewhat anthems at the Etihad Stadium.
But instead, Wigan chose to use it as their own ‘victory parade’ tune on the night as they celebrated one of the biggest night’s in the club’s history. Cheeky? Or provoking? People are torn …
Wigan should be kicked out of the FA cup for wats happened at end of game with playing oasis and going on pitch.
