City Dealt Setback In Race For Dutch Playmaker With La Liga Giants ‘One Step Away’ From Securing Deal

Barcelona are “one step away” from securing the transfer of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Sport.

The Catalan newspaper reports that the 21-year-old has verbally agreed to move to the Camp Nou, although it appears Barca are yet to agree a transfer fee with Ajax for the player.

De Jong could reportedly cost as much as €75m and Barcelona are yet to reach a compromise over an acceptable amount.

Still, it appears that despite the la Liga side having offered lower wages than the likes of City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, the Dutch international is keen to sign on the dotted line for the club.

Apparently, all other interested parties have taken a step back, and have accepted that Barcelona have won the race for the player, with everyone waiting for an official announcement that an agreement has been reached. However, without a transfer fee having been agreed, there is a still a chance that there are further twists and turns in this story to come.
