Mark Lawrenson Predicts The Scoreline As City Take On Chelsea In The FA Cup Semi Final

Mark Lawrenson is expecting Manchester City to come out on top when they face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final this evening.

The BBC pundit believes Blues boss Thomas Tuchel will set his team up defensively but he doesn’t think it will be effective against an in-form City team:

“City are going to have so much of the ball that they will create chances. If Pep Guardiola’s side score the first goal then that could be curtains for Chelsea. I wouldn’t say the same applies if Chelsea score first though.”

Lawrenson has gone with a 2-0 win for the Citizens, which is somewhat surprising, considering Chelsea have been in good form in recent weeks.

There have, though, been some notable dips, including the shock 5-2 home defeat to West Brom, and the loss to Porto on Tuesday night, which suggest there are vulnerabilities that Pep Guardiola’s team can exploit.

You would expect City to have control of possession at Wembley, and if they do score the opener, you would back them to pick off their opponents. It will, however, be an intriguing battle between two teams who could also face each other in the Champions League final next month.
